Position: Special Education Support Professional
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Develops and coordinates the implementation of the Special Education program
• Serves as the LEA for all Special Education meetings
• Manage a caseload of students of up to 10 students
• Observes classroom environment and makes recommendations for improvement in instruction and classroom management as appropriate
• Ensures compliance of IDEA and all federal and state guidelines
• Maintains special education records
• Gathers and analyzes data on student achievement for progress monitoring for all students on an IEP
• Coordinates departmental and other Special Education meetings
• Ensures all Special Education teachers and paraprofessionals are properly certified and trained
• Meets with teachers, staff and parents to discuss the implementation of the Special Education program goals
• Coordinates and provides related professional development opportunities for classroom teachers
• Participates in various professional and community organizations; attends various workshops, seminars and conferences to continuously update professional knowledge in services for students with learning disabilities
• Develops and maintains a network of contacts to assist in the implementation of the school’s disability programs
• Substitute for Special Education when necessary
